Bump of Chicken
Stargazing
At 2 AM, I headed to the crossing with a telescope in hand
Tied my radio to my belt, looks like it won’t rain
Two minutes later, you showed up, carrying a heavy load
Shall we start stargazing? Let’s look for the North Star
I was doing my best not to get swallowed by the deep darkness
That day, I tried to hold your trembling hand
Peering through the telescope, trying to see the unseen
Voices were born, cutting through the silence
Even when tomorrow called us, I didn’t respond
In the direction of now, I was chasing it with you
I realized I’m always searching for something
Definitions of happiness or a place for sadness
Since we’re born, we’re searching until we die
So, shall we start stargazing? Let’s look for the North Star
I remember everything I’ve found so far
Even the pain of not being able to hold your trembling hand
Peering through the telescope, trying to know the unknown
I searched for a faint light to illuminate the darkness
And the pain I learned from that still sticks with me
In the direction of now, I’m still chasing it alone
As I grew taller, the things I wanted to say increased
Letters without addresses piled up until they crumbled
I’m doing well, not much to worry about
But there’s one thing I still remember
Caught in unexpected rain, about to cry
That day when I couldn’t hold your trembling hand
Overlooking what’s visible, I hoisted the telescope again
Rushed through the road back to silence and darkness
And the pain I learned from that still supports me
In the direction of now, I’m still chasing it alone
Trying to meet you once more, I hoisted the telescope again
At 2 AM, just like before, I’ll run to the crossing
Shall we start stargazing? Even if you don’t show up in two minutes
In the direction of now, I’m chasing it with you.
