El Huérfano
Los Cadetes de Linares
The Orphan
All those present pay full attention
My mother when she was alive gave me many pieces of advice,
With affection she told me, don't treat me with disdain
I remember she used to say, when I went out for a walk
Don't take too long, my dear son
The day will come when you will remember me
Poor thing, my mother, how pitifully she died
She fell asleep in the deepest sleep
But unfortunate me, I was left alone in the world
To cry my loneliness at the foot of her grave
Oh my God have mercy, look at my sad bitterness
When I got drunk, my mother would come looking for me
Wherever she found me, she would start crying
And if something happened to me, she would come to console me
From the sky fell a flower, which I plucked in the wind
For all my friends, I sang 'the orphan'
