O Crente e o Cachaceiro

The Believer and the Drunkard

I want to hear you tell
To the Brazilian people
The difference there is
From the believer to the drunkard

The believer goes to church
Carrying the Bible in hand
In the heart is faith
In judgment salvation
Always waiting for Jesus
To depart with the brother

Drunkard leaves home
Carrying the vice in mind
A snack in the pocket
All pretending to be decent
Comes back talking alone
And stinking of the liquor

When the believer goes to the beach
Gets all agitated
Because at the beach you see
Buttocks walking naked
And the believer doesn't like
That it's a damn sin

The drunkard doesn't like
To waste time in church
Because there's no rum there
Nor does whiskey come on a tray
There's also no mix
Nor brandy nor beer

The believer doesn't value
Those who live in the drumming
Doesn't like carnival
Nor forró or lambada
Because in heaven there's no
Such great nonsense

The drunkard doesn't like
Those who boast
Saying that Jesus Christ
Is coming back any day
And the church pastor
Getting richer every time

Believer says the drunkard
Is not a modern man
That who drinks in summer
Also drinks in winter
And who dies of cirrhosis
Goes straight to hell

Drunkard says the believer
Likes to judge a lot
Look at other people's lives
Without Jesus authorizing
Only the believer wants to be right
And this way it won't work

Believer doesn't like drunkards
Thinks it's ugly
Says drunkard is nosy
Likes to tell tales
And those who like rum
Don't like scripture

Drunkard says the believer
Can never have value
Poor believer walks on foot
To imitate the Lord
And if anything is sold
Pays tax to the pastor

I don't like movies
Nor watch soccer
Don't value soap operas
And don't believe in witchcraft
And I like to read the Bible
In tie and suit

So stay in your church
And let me have fun
Don't talk about my life
I won't go there either
Because when I go to heaven
I don't want to argue there

Friend take some advice
Abandon this rum
Go pray in a church
To get out of this mess
Stop being a bum
Cirrhosis threatens you

Brother I want to tell you
I know you're a believer
Don't call me a bum
Or I'll get angry
Leave this scripture
And let's have some liquor

You know I'm a believer
And I'll never accept
You can follow your path
I'll also travel
I think this subject
Is good to end

Since you're leaving
I'll also take off
But I ask you please
Let's go to a bar over there
If you don't pay for two
Let me pay

You're a drunkard
And can't enter heaven
Jesus doesn't like drunks
Who drink to show off
In heaven only believers enter
And the drunks will stay

Brother you're mistaken
Heaven is for everyone
If there's rum in heaven
There are bums too
So I'll drink on credit
And I'll write a check with no funds

In heaven there's no bar
Nor bank with money
In heaven there's peace
For the true Christian
No criminals enter
Nor thieves nor drunkards

Brother I apologize
I know one day I'll die
But when it's close
I'll stop drinking
I'll ask God for forgiveness
And I'll live in heaven
