O Passarinho Prisioneiro

On a dry branch, I saw a little bird land
Singing a song for its little ones
And a drifter, always partying
Rushed to set a trap for it.

The careless little bird comes down
To grab that seed in the trap
It comes down, poor thing, so happy
Then suddenly, it lets out a scream in the cage.

The drifter then bursts out laughing
In love, without a single regret
And the poor little caged bird
In its perch, will never sing again.

When morning comes, the bird, very distressed
Heard the cries of its little ones far away
It wants to escape, but the walls hold it back
Oh, what bitterness for a mother's heart!

It beats against the walls like a mad thing
And little by little, it gets all plucked
Breaks its wings, leaves its chest wounded
Almost lifeless, it falls in a bloody corner.

Goodbye, little ones, my life is short
Goodbye, forest where I learned to sing
That monster who stole my joy
Maybe one day won’t laugh anymore.

Almost dead, the bird still says:
"Come, murderer of my children, set me free,
For God gave me my life in the forest
And always, in joy, I had a sky to fly!"

The drifter runs to open the door
But it’s dead now, it can’t fly anymore
And the poor little caged bird
In its perch, will never sing again.
