Banquete de Belsazar
Cantor Cristão
Belshazzar's Feast
In a wicked orgy,
The rebel Belshazzar,
With the great men of his kingdom,
All of them rejoicing,
Were astonished
When the king trembled:
On the wall the divine hand,
Writing, appeared.
In the palace, the festive
Nobles could not read
Such writing on the wall;
Soon the king, all trembling,
Sent quickly for
The captive Daniel,
Who, from the writing on the wall,
Gave the faithful translation.
The sentence was severe
For the monarch of the Chaldeans,
Who lived in sin;
Without any fear of God:
'Your kingdom has passed away;
It is written on the wall;
In the balance of justice
Your soul is lacking.'
Your life, O friend,
At this moment is written;
The record of your deeds
God, in heaven, is already writing;
May Jesus, then, make you
Understand such writing,
So that, in having time, you may
Receive His grace.
There in heaven, the hand of God!
There in heaven, the hand of God!
See what your fate may be,
Your life or death;
There in heaven, the hand of God writes.
