Me Da Pena Confesarlo
Carlos Gardel
I'm Ashamed to Admit It
Man is born in this world tangled by destiny,
And continues his path very confident in the rigor,
Without thinking that the harshness of life without love,
Entangles his existence in the strings of pain.
But there comes a moment when he realizes his fate,
And he becomes bitter to death without salvation,
For he understands that life was just a fling
Losing the beloved faith of his poor heart.
I'm ashamed to admit it, but it's sad, damn it!
To come so low, defeated and old;
It's not manly to lament, but seeing how I drift away,
Unable to remedy it, I cry without wanting... to cry.
If it weren't for the memory of my dear mother
Embracing me in this life with heartfelt devotion,
It wouldn't be me enduring this sad situation,
Nor the one who contemplates it without opening his heart.
But there are things, my friend, that no one understands,
Sometimes one defends oneself from pain to live,
Like the one who boasts of courage in suffering
Not dying of cowardice for fear of not dying.
