The city slept majestically
In the stillness of the night
Like an agony, like a reproach
A tormented soul sang like this

Corrientes, nocturnal street
Of tango, skulls, and high society
In your street of vices and orgies
I killed my joys, my only Eden

Where foolishly I withered my youth
Among the brightness of your splendid lights
Dizzy and smiling, I lost my youth

And one more wandering alone
Alone and sad with my sorrow
Dragging a chain
Of bitterness and discontent

But I blame no one
I suffer my fall alone

One night you intoxicated me with your evil
And the poison you gave me was so strong
That no one can resist your fatal shine

Corrientes, cursed street
I will never trade you for my slum

How I feel for my elders
My home, my little siblings
Who, poor things, suffer from sorrow
