La Cieguita
Carlos Gardel
The Blind Girl
Despite the long time
Since then passed
Still my heart moved
It is tormented by the pain
Of that day when, on a walk
A blind girl came to a bench
And by her side an old lady
Who was her guide and her love
And I observed that the little girl
With big empty eyes
Listened to the shouting
Of other girls jumping
And I heard her bitterly
In a song that was a complaint
Asking the old lady
Why can't I play?
And I'm not sure
If the pain I felt
Was listening to the girl's voice
Or when I looked
At her old lady I noticed
She was silently crying her sorrow
Oh, blind girl!
I said with great sorrow
Come with me, poor thing
I gave her a kiss and the blind girl
Now had someone to play with
And so it was that daily
When she arrived with her old lady
The blind girl looked for me
With so much interest
How happy the poor girl was
When she arrived next to me
And with her affection she managed
That the three of us played!
But one day, I remember well
There was only the old lady
Who told me: The blind girl
Is about to expire
I ran to her cradle
The blind girl was dying
And as she was dying she said to me
Who will you play with now?
And I'm not sure
If the pain I felt
Was hearing the girl's goodbye
Or when I looked
At her old lady I noticed
She was silently crying her sorrow
Oh, blind girl!
I will not be able to forget you
Because I remember my daughter
Who was also blind
And couldn't play
