Je Te Dirai
Carlos Gardel
I'll Tell You
For a long time,
I've been suffering from waiting for you without hope.
The memory lingers
of the warm embrace
of our first evenings.
When you come back to seek, close to me,
the tender scent of our first emotions,
I'll tell you the two farewell words,
the two words: "I love you";
they will tell me of your return to me,
a brand new baptism.
You will tell me how sad your exile was,
I will tell you how much my heart cried for you;
you will close your amethyst eyes
to better savor, in my arms,
the words I will say when you come back.
Then, days will come,
sad days dragging their monotony,
and our tired bodies
will flee the past
and its poetry.
When you leave to seek, far from me,
the troubled scent of older emotions,
I will whisper to you the eternal two words:
"I love you"
and you will take them with you as a
supreme memory.
You will leave without a word of farewell, haughty;
without a regret, without tears you will leave.
I will search, to scream my pain,
the whispered words in your arms,
the words I will tell you when you leave.
