Allá En La Ribera
Carlos Gardel
There on the Riverbank
There on the riverbank, the evening fades away,
Carrying a complaint of broken illusion,
And the air collects deep sighs,
That will go through the world like a tender song...
It reaches our soul, like a smile,
The warm breeze that brings as it passes by
Who knows from where, heartfelt words,
That fill life with deep sorrow...
Sorrowful and beautiful, she is on the riverbank,
The young woman who was once happy in her love,
A ship, to other seas, has departed from the port,
And a man has gone after something better...
A man has gone with a course to other lands
Without seeing the sorrows of another heart,
Perhaps he hasn't thought about what he was leaving behind,
To the one who loved him with holy passion...
The sun is setting, turning off its lights
And sticks and crosses are seen swaying,
And then the young woman can't calm down,
Nor can she forget about the one who is leaving
And as the shadows invade things
Sad and silent, she walks away from there,
But even though she doesn't cry, she walks carrying
Her soul bleeding, from so much suffering...
