Insomnio
Carlos Gardel
Insomnia
It's night, the wind passes grumbling
Bending the willows almost to the ground
In the dark depths of my old ranch
Lying on the bed I've made from straps
I endure the hours that will bring me sleep
And the hours pass and I can't sleep
Nor does the tero bird sleep on the shore of the swamp
Which sometimes cries out some lament
That the jackal repeats from far away
Damn, the winter hours are so long!
Through the murky glass of memory
My youthful years pass by very slowly
And after enjoying them if I go back to live them
Thinking about the present ones, I don't know what I feel
Calves without horns, mares without bells
Colts that are tamed by force of a halter
Corrals that killed the rural luxuries
Gauchos who don't know about headbands and loincloths
Bosses who go to rodeos in cars
Damn, the winter nights are so long!
The door of the ranch trembles because the dog
Shivers against it from cold and fear
Everything is ice outside, everything is cold inside
And the hours pass and I can't sleep
And to make it worse, deep in my thoughts
Two mischievous eyes shine brightly
That I chase to burn myself in them
They are the bewitching eyes that I can't forget
Because they have already forever stolen my sleep
Damn, the winter hours are so long!
