Memories
I'm sitting on the curb in the neighborhood,
like a century ago
sometimes they play on the radio
sometimes not at all
And 'Memories of Underdevelopment'
still pleasing even now
it's strange that at 20 years old
its light didn't fade
I don't have Superman
I have Elpidio Valdés
my TV was Russian
I don't have much more
than what I can do
and despite everything, I fight
I didn't have Santa Claus
or a Christmas tree
but nothing felt strange to me
and that's how I could live
having to invent
toys once a year
And like the Beatles' records
we couldn't have
the kids found out
that their parents listened to them too
We swapped mercenaries for compotes
during the Bay of Pigs
and at parties we wore boots
singing a Lennon song
I'm sitting on the curb in the neighborhood,
like a century ago
sometimes they play on the radio
sometimes not
sometimes not at all
sometimes...
