La pierre et le vent
Catherine Ribeiro
The Stone and the Wind
The mountain is dark
Light-years away
Lost in the sky
The sun has gone astray
Drowned in the stars
The sun has hung itself
On the fiery scarf
That wrapped around my neck
I’m off to find you
To find myself
I walked through the mud
And the quicksand
On stony paths
Overrun with snakes
I called on the stars
And the night and the wind
The gods and the demons
Explored the brothels
While I sang
Silent and without a guitar
Time stretched out
Dissolved in the music
From the depths of my storms
I struck with lightning
The harshness of silence
And of solitude
A semblance of a lie
A hint of truth
The agony of life
And of society
The stone and then the wind
Have shaped the space
So there’s nothing left
Between your body and mine
But your slightly open mouth
And my fingers on your skin
It’s time for sleep
Your eyes have closed
And I feel your warmth
Closing in on me
