Les fées Carabosse
Catherine Ribeiro
The Carabosse Fairies
I don’t know anymore, can’t make sense of it
They drain you to the bone
They suck your essence
And lick their lips
{Chorus:}
And as always, the ones to blame
Are the big shots
The Carabosse fairies
Chewing gum like it’s nothing
They got me, took everything
But I had nothing, nothing that can be bought
With cash, but they drank
My tears of an adult turned child
{Chorus}
They dressed me up on the school benches
Gave me teachers who could barely mumble
They aimed true but forgot
That one day I’d know suffering
{Chorus}
Here’s where the flaw is, the enormity of the egg
Crushed under the hen’s ass, I walked the tracks
Of the railroads, ignored the express
I don’t give a damn about their cars, I can’t even drive!
{Chorus}
They won’t get me anymore, not with their astronauts
Nor with their campaigns for the unfortunate
Because it’s others who should act
Instead of moving the world through television
{Chorus}
And if there are slums, if there are genocides
In Africa and elsewhere, if there are children
Reaching out, I feel so alone
I scream and I cry and I hide because I’m ashamed
{Chorus}
But they won’t get me anymore because what I can
Give them that’s best, the seed of my love
I’ll make it grow in the sun far from the war’s rumors
And if not dying a hero for the nation is a crime
I’ll pay for the seed of my love to ripen
And I’ll climb on top of a bus
And I’ll get shaved, if I have to, I’ll be naked
So the whole of France will know and feel the shame
Ha! Ha! Ha! For God’s sake! We got them!
