Praise, O Sion, the Savior,
Praise the leader and shepherd
In hymns and songs.

As much as you can, dare,
Because greater than all praise,
You are not able to praise enough.

The special theme of praise,
The living and life-giving bread
Is presented today.

Whom at the sacred table of the supper
The twelve brothers' crowd
Was given without doubt.

May there be full praise, may it be sonorous;
May it be joyful, may it be beautiful
The jubilation of the mind.

For a solemn day is celebrated
In which the first table is recalled
Of this institution.

At this table of the new king,
The new Passover of the new law
Ends the old phase.

Novelty in antiquity,
Truth drives away the shadow,
Light eliminates the night.

What Christ did at the supper
This is expressed to be done
In His memory.

Taught by sacred precepts,
We consecrate the bread, wine
Into the host of salvation.

A doctrine is given to Christians
That the bread passes into flesh
And the wine into blood.

What you do not grasp, what you do not see
The courageous faith confirms
Beyond the order of things.

Under different species,
Only in signs and not in reality,
Lie hidden extraordinary things.

Flesh is food, blood is drink,
Yet Christ remains whole
Under each species.

He is not cut by the one who receives,
Not broken, not divided,
He is received whole.

One receives, a thousand receive,
As much as the former, so the latter,
Nor is the recipient consumed.

The good receive, the evil receive,
Yet with unequal fate
Of life or death.

Death is for the wicked, life for the good:
See the equal consumption
How different is the outcome.

After the breaking of the sacrament,
Do not hesitate, but remember
That there is as much under a fragment
As is covered by the whole.

There is no division of the reality,
Only a breaking of the sign
By which neither the state nor the stature
Of the one who is signed is diminished.

Behold the bread of angels
Made food for travelers,
Truly the bread of children
Not to be thrown to the dogs.

In figures it is prefigured,
When Isaac is sacrificed,
The Lamb of the Passover is designated,
The manna is given to the fathers.

Good shepherd, truly bread,
Jesus, have mercy on us,
Feed us, protect us,
Let us see good things
In the land of the living.

You who know and can do all things,
Who feed us here as mortals,
Make us there your guests,
Coheirs and companions
Of the holy citizens.
