Have mercy, Lord, on your people
Do not be angry with us forever

Let us bend the avenging anger
Let us weep before the Judge
Let us cry out with supplicant mouth
Let us all say with bowed heads

We have offended with our evils
Your divine mercy
Pour out upon us from above
O forgiving one, forgiveness

Grant us an acceptable time
Give us tears in streams
To wash the victim of the heart
Which joyful charity burns

Hear, kind Creator
Our prayers with tears
In this sacred fasting
Of the forty days poured out

Almighty searcher of hearts
You know the weakness of our strength
To those who return to You, show
The grace of forgiveness
