Le Roi S'en Va Chasser

The King Goes Hunting
There was a king who loved nothing more
Than to hunt all the time, both night and day
Riding with him, soldiers and pages in tow
An enormous entourage followed his lead
Watch out
Here come the grand hunts
Can you hear
Midnight chime?
Hunt and kill
Let the dawn perish
Here comes the cursed time
The king goes hunting
At the call of blood, at the call of the wind
Every stormy night he would charge ahead
Eager for conquests, arrows let fly
For the slaughter of beasts and the blood that was shed
Watch out
Here come the grand hunts
Can you hear
Midnight chime?
Hunt and kill
Let the dawn perish
Here comes the cursed time
The king goes hunting
Soon a red hare crosses their path
And on every road they chase it together
From evening till morning, the horn sounds the kill
The beautiful hare escapes through the thickets
Watch out
Here come the grand hunts
Can you hear
Midnight chime?
Hunt and kill
Let the dawn perish
Here comes the cursed time
The king goes hunting
It almost makes them drunk, and suddenly he turns
No longer rust-colored or like pine needles
But white as snow, he grows and becomes
A frost-colored stag with satin eyes
Finally, the stag fell, wounded at the king's feet
Amidst the running dogs and the foaming wolves
In the gathered crowd, a murmur arose
For between its antlers shone like a cross
Watch out
Here come the grand hunts
Can you hear
Midnight chime?
Hunt and kill
Let the dawn perish
Here comes the cursed time
The king goes hunting
The king stopped dead, and the stag began to speak
And said, Great king: "Spare the beast
You are king down here, I am too
Far beyond the lands where you dwell"
Watch out
Here come the grand hunts
Can you hear
Midnight chime?
Hunt and kill
Let the dawn perish
Here comes the cursed time
The king goes hunting
Watch out
Here come the grand hunts
Can you hear
Midnight chime?
Hunt and kill
Let the dawn perish
Here comes the cursed time
The king goes hunting
