A Tu Regreso
Cecilia Todd
On your return
Your return you will see the wind
Lick the dirt off the roads
And at a glance you will see the line
Of insects embroidering the air.
And the gold in pollen, ripe and fine,
From the heart of daisies
And the collected aromas
That they waited for you for long years.
When you return you will have the shadow
“dresquirredonda” of the laurels,
You will see the white and fluctuating bora
That one hesitates over the wells.
And the noble, green and rebellious juice
From the lemon tree that is in the patio
And at night the fine breeze
Who entertains himself combing palms.
Upon your return you will bring that
Piece of something that was yesterday
Knocking down mangoes like at three,
Sucking cane and stealing honey.
Upon your return you will bring here
What you carried inside you,
The moon is full like a melon
And from life our reason.
On your return you will see cocuyos
That they do not rely on the stars
And the happy smoke of the stoves
Embers reddening for your arrival.
And in the dawns an urgent sky
Stealing blue from the tiles
That they abandoned the orange trees
When you left ten years ago.
