Cuando La Mar, La Mar
Cecilia Todd
When The Sea, The Sea
When the sea, the sea becomes calm, tranquil
The sea often steals blues from the skies
It sheds, it sheds its gray, its opaque veil, its veil
As dawn begins to bid farewell
When the sea, the sea becomes a true companion
It gives its intense, immense bosom to mankind, brother
And it offers him the catch in his hands, his hands
To break his morning calm this way
When the sea, the sea becomes a melody by day
Of the salty bird and the salty canoe
Fleeting song, reason, emerging from the waters, its waters
It will quench your thirst, your midday thirst
When the sea, the sea becomes affectionate and beautiful
It tends to take you far, so far with the breeze
To the reddish line, the reddish line in the reddish evening
There on the horizon it settles and rests
When the sea, the sea becomes cunning and sly
You hear the night fighting, the turquoise fight
You see the sudden arrival and the sad tan
Perhaps fortunately fleeting
When the sea, the dark and thoughtful sea, tired
Lights up with the moon, its moon and the Antilles
It seems to be reborn, born from its simple shores
To become new, once again calm
