Audacity
They've told me, and forgive me for calling you out like this
that you act like a partner in some kind of show,
that you've been around like a wild colt that they corral in the elbow,
all dressed up from the talk of a show-off.
I honestly don't know what it's like to be a partner
even though they say I'm rough and old-fashioned... What do you want!
It must not be anything good if you have to go all out
and instead of doing it in plain language, they do it in French.
Then they say - and this fact, - what do you want!, it saddens me,
because it comes from the guys who have seen you work -
that you go out with other girls to fill the catwalk
and sing, if what they do can be called singing.
You, who have no ear even for Rice Pudding...
And you sang La Morocha as a 'star' number!
Who would see you so lacking in shame and elegance
start shouting when a Charleston plays!...
They've changed you, poor girl... If your late mother
raised her head from the bottom of the coffin
and saw you acting so audacious and shameless
she would die again from pain and indignation.
You, that little girl whom she, so saintly
raised so quietly, so humble and so proper...
They've changed you, poor kid... They foolishly deceived you,
rowdy little mask of a silly carnival...
