Graças a Deus
César Oliveira e Rogério Melo
Thanks to God
If God blesses me
I arrive on horseback raising dust
I am from the border
And I have my whole soul in this chamamé
For a beloved
I shorten distances, no matter the leagues
That fate denies
Who doesn't put their chest forward and makes it happen.
My argument is a gaucho verse
That I forged on the road
Riding the herd
From wild colts I made law-abiding horses
I am from fine fields, from wide horizons
Of love and longing
And I walk freely in the pampas of the world
Where I got used to.
I thank God and follow my path... just like that!
Hitting the mark, spurring on, making plans again
Only those with guts can live this life with the strength of their arms
And when setting the lasso, surely won't be left behind.
If God allows me
I'll raise my leg... I already asked for a kick!
In this commotion
Of the rustic figure, of the cowboy's turns
The genuine smile
The simple way of making friends
For every danger
A gesture, a shelter, a handshake.
With a clear conscience, I pass on the traditions
Renew hope
I am old and young, a seasoned story
Of land and smoke
The blood of the race, boiling in the veins
Sustains a southerner
Who drinks destiny in the flowing waters
Of passing time.
