Zamba de Abril
Chango Rodriguez
April Zamba
Medallion and chain, a sprinkle of stars
The rose of the old garden was dressed
Violin and drum with flute and guitar
The skies gave me the April nights
Cricket prayer, zamba doves
The night lady came out to the balcony
If I looked at you, your ceibo lips
Beat the drums, my voice trembled
Like a handkerchief my mother stayed
She said goodbye before leaving
With the voice of the wind, music of kisses
She left me an April zamba
Old mansion, a hundred years saw you
White clavelina of moon and sun
If the fences moan, flowery rose bushes
In your childlike song my voice will return
What the wise one gives me, the magic of a blind man
That speaks to me of a sky I cannot see
That's why in my nights of singing and guitar
I remember the homeland that saw me born
Like a handkerchief my mother stayed
She said goodbye before leaving
With the voice of the wind, music of kisses
She left me an April zamba
