L'Émigrant
Charles Aznavour
The Immigrant
All train stations look the same
And all the ports are bored to death
All the roads come together
To lead to the infinite
In the chaos of existence
There's always a passerby
Who never got a lucky break
And became an immigrant
Look at him as he wanders
His heart beyond the seasons
He crosses walls of hatred
And chasms of misunderstanding
At every new border
Hoping to finally settle down
He says a quick prayer
To the sky that forgot him
Look at him, he strolls
Never knowing where he's headed
He walks like a sleepwalker
And people point at him
The whole world is filled with hate
The sky up there doesn’t get it
The happy ones form a chain
Holding hands together
No way to join the dance
The calendar has its clan
If you don’t have a lucky break
You’ll stay an immigrant
Look at him as he wanders
His heart beyond the seasons
He crosses walls of hatred
And chasms of misunderstanding
At every new border
Hoping to finally settle down
He says a quick prayer
To the sky that forgot him
Look at him, he strolls
Never knowing where he's headed
He walks like a sleepwalker
And people point at him
But to hear his misery
One day the sky lets him fall
Arms outstretched, face to the ground
To embrace freedom
