Pururauca

[I. The Chancas]

In the time of Aucapacha,
Choclococha saw the birth
Of a warrior, fierce, and untamable town.
Their heads do not see falling.

From Huamanga, city of the falcon,
Usco Vilca and Anco Vilca
Inspire the troops that depart furiously
With a thirst for expansion. Bloody mission.

Astu Huaraca. Tomay Huaraca.
Lead the sinister force
Heading towards Cusco.
Their intention: domination.

After their passage, entire villages,
Only impaled skulls remain.

Chancas lords with red headbands,
In their attire, one can see
Gods, jaguars, mythical beings,
Who jealously protect their strength and power.

Fury that dyes black and red
Their fierce complexion in the military.
Braided hair,
Waving in the wind of war.

The slingshot in motion,
Astu Huaraca is.
In the depth of his gaze
Burn the desires to subdue.

Hordes already lurk the sacred city.
The looming threat,
At the gates of Cusco,
Seeks to annihilate the Incas.

[II. The Incas]

From four sacred windows
Arise four pairs of brothers,
Giving birth to an ancestral people
Whose race is Inca.

Manco Capac, Apu Inca,
Pilgrimed in time.
Leading with his people,
He founded the city of Cusco.

Many years have passed.
Viracocha, eighth Inca, rules.
Already decrepit and tired,
He sees his cycle ending.

Inca Urco succeeds him.
Chosen by the elder.
Cowardly, decadent.
Pleasure and vice cloud his mind.

Cusi Yupanqui, young noble offspring,
Shows bravery and courage.
Skilled and adept in handling weapons.
He never shies away from battles.
Higher thoughts
Will always occupy his intellect.

The Chancas have entered
The heart of the Inca caste.
They have sent an emissary
Demanding total surrender.
To subdue, to conquer.
No one seems able to face them.

Viracocha has declined.
His motto is to flee.
Inca Urco follows his steps
Leaving the city surrendered.
Chaos, panic,
Already infect the veins of Cusco.

"I was not born to
Suffer submission to anyone".
Cusi Yupanqui exclaimed furiously,
Facing destiny with bravery.

Pachacutec has shown himself:
"The one who transforms the land".
A great leader has been born
And will protect his people.

[III. The Resistance]

The new Inca, leader and warrior,
Organizes the resistance of the seemingly defeated people.
Rows of stones with great armament align,
Simulating troops in the distance.
Fasts, prayers, and sacrifices are offered.
The Sun manifests victory.
Digging holes, recruiting human strength,
The war squadrons are formed.

[IV. The Conflict]

From a hill called Carmenca,
Usco Vilca instills strength.
Chanca strength to his warriors,
Who are counted by the thousands.

Dark cloud, stony rain,
The slingshots project violence.
The Andes tremble.
The great battle begins.

With the sacred puma skin,
Pachacutec covers his head.
Encouraging in noble gesture
His troops who are bleeding.

Arrows, spears, clubs, and slings,
Melted in a cruel storm.
The Incas defend
Their land and their freedom.

[V. The Invocation]

Pachacutec:
"Brothers awaken,
Now is the battle.
Show your enigma
In this fateful hour".

[VI. The Transformation]

The inert gray rocks
Responding to the firm call
Of the sovereign son of the Sun,
In magical Inca soldiers
They have transformed.
Named Pururauca,
They come to the fray with great vigor.

[VII. The Final Battle]

The combat already shows its ardor
Dyeing the field with blood.
The Inca spirit is encouraged
And their morale is rising.

Whole squadrons of Chancas
See their great power fall.
It is the frenzy of Pururauca
Eagerly seeking to win.

In the ecstasy of conflict
Pachacutec displays his bravery.
From the litter, he has knocked down
The idol Usco Vilca.

Seeing the imminent defeat,
They march towards Huamanga.
The Chancas...
Have turned into falcons.
