Apolonia La Bonita
Chava Flores
Apolonia The Beauty
In the streets of Cypress twenty-four, inside three,
Apolonia lives with her uncle and her grandma.
If in the afternoon you see her, around six o'clock,
She comes out all dolled up with her face shining.
And there's poor Manuel with his sweet and his carnation,
But Apolonia has a date with Andres.
Apolonia, what do you see in him? Leave that Andres guy already,
He's breaking your heart.
Look at poor Manuel: there's no man cleaner than him,
He's a lifeguard, very honest and hardworking. No, no, no and no!
And there goes that good-for-nothing through the streets of Cypress running blindly;
The promenade is empty because that brute Andres just doesn't show up.
He's a lamp in those places, always at the pool halls,
He's a slacker in 'pool bolita', and there he is waiting for you
Like any other stone, Apolonia the beauty.
The girl's anxiety turned into cruel tears,
Local girl! And here she comes back
Without having tasted the kiss that could have stained her lips.
Apolonia, what do you see in him? Leave that Andres guy already,
He's tormenting your heart.
I'm not friends with Manuel, I have nothing with him;
But... give him a chance, my Apolonia, there's no need to be like that!
