La Boda de La Vecindad
Chava Flores
The Neighborhood Wedding
Tacho married Tencha from number eight,
From the first to the twenty-eighth they put up a big festoon;
They adorned the whole neighborhood,
Pachita the doorwoman collected her commission.
The courtyard, no longer a dump,
They removed clotheslines and sun-dried clothes;
The pulquería Las Glorias de Modesta
Provided a brand new orchestra to play.
Tencha wore her shiny dress
That she bought on credit from Don Abraham;
But with shoes she was moving forward,
But she was very elegant on her father's arm.
Poor Tacho's suit was too small for him
And even though he was upset, he went to the event;
In a car from the garage owner
The procession set off to the La Asunción church.
At Rufino's house was the photography
Paid for by the godfather Don Chon;
Then the car suffered a serious breakdown,
The couple returned by tram, the bride and groom by truck.
Mole and lung were served at Cuca's house,
There was a danzón with the girl from number twenty-two;
From there the newlyweds left for Toluca:
We wish a happy honeymoon to both of them
