Teresinha
Chico Buarque
Teresinha
The first one came to me
Like someone coming from the florist:
Brought a stuffed animal,
Brought an amethyst brooch.
Told me about his travels
And the advantages he had.
Showed me his watch;
Called me queen.
Found me so defenseless,
That touched my heart,
But I denied nothing
And, frightened, I said "no".
The second one came to me
Like someone coming from the bar:
Brought a liter of brandy
So bitter to drink.
Asked about my past
And smelled my food.
Rummaged through my drawer;
Called me lost.
Found me so defenseless,
That scratched my heart,
But gave me nothing
And, frightened, I said "no".
The third one came to me
Like someone coming out of nowhere:
He didn't bring me anything,
Also didn't ask anything.
I barely know his name,
But I understand what he wants!
Laid down on my bed
And calls me woman.
He arrived stealthily
And before I said no,
He settled like a squatter
Inside my heart.
