Canarinho Prisioneiro
Chico Rey e Paraná
Imprisoned Canary
I'm that canary
That sang in your backyard
In front of your window
I sang all day long
Then I went into a cage
And they made me a prisoner
They took me to the city
Exchanged me for money
In the basement of that building
Was where I lived
They insulted me to sing
But out of sadness, I didn't sing
In that imprisoned life
Many times I imagined
If I broke this cage
I would return to my homeland
One evening
The boss's daughter came
She saw me in that sadness
And her heart was moved
She opened the gate
Taking me out of prison
Go away, little canary
Go sing in your homeland
Today I'm back here
Since the early dawn
Announcing the dusk
And the break of dawn
Flying over the forest
And delighting my beloved
Very happy to have returned
To my old dwelling
