The Wake
Don Anacleto died
Romualda's husband
Poor thing was so fierce
They woke him up facing backwards
The deceased was so tiny
That the widow every now and then
Would go look for him in the street
As the cat took him away
He died like a little bird
A relative lamented
Looking at the deceased
With a very mournful face
And a drunkard upon hearing
Commented to Bonifacio
I think this shorty
Was taken down with a blow
And around midnight
Don Miranda arrived with the musicians
And the poor deceased with coffin and all
They quickly put him inside the wardrobe
And right there the party started
They played dice until morning
There was guitar playing and a big commotion
But nobody bothered the deceased
A tipsy man entered the ranch
To see what was happening
And seeing so much movement
He thought they were having a party
And seeing the candles lit
He wanted to poke his nose in
And blowing them out he shouted
Happy birthday to you
Around midnight
Don Miranda arrived with the musicians
And the poor deceased with coffin and all
They quickly put him inside the wardrobe
And right there the party started
They played dice until morning
There was guitar playing and a big commotion
But nobody bothered the deceased
