The Elements
Useless like a rubber flower...
Open like an old closet,
Absurd with eyes and a mouth,
I tried to be an airplane...
And see the land just below, cracking
Like a black orange...
Back in the day, before the clock
And the bell tower!
When no one existed, there were
Only silent planets:
They all looked like
A submarine universe
The earth gave birth to the moon!
From a crack in the sea...
For its seaweed and riches
That it took to the sky
Without its mother’s permission
Came the fish, the butterfly,
The green inhabitants,
The tiny insects...
Each planet pregnant...
Forced its offspring
To keep on procreating...
And then came the men!
We’ll remember now
When the race was young;
Fame wasn’t here yet,
Nor ambition,
Nor money;
Just the love of life
Inaugurating the world!
They say everything has changed
Say the worshippers
When history began
And no one looked up
At the daughter of the earth,
At our first sister,
Out of sorrow, her face turned pale
And she became a bride of lime...
