Una Giornata Al Mare
Paolo Conte
A Day at the Beach
A day at the beach
alone with a thousand bucks
I came to see
this water and the people here
the sun shining brighter
the noise of the world so loud
I search for reasons and meanings in this life
but my time feels like it’s made of just a few hours
laughter from the ladies falls on my head
I look but the waitress
won't speak my language
I’m talking nonsense to a guy
sitting in a car further down
a car that smells of paint,
of women, of speed
and down there I hear splashes in the sea,
in the sun or in time who knows,
kids shouting,
balls dancing
You’re left all alone,
sweet madonna alone,
in the shadows of a dream
or maybe a photograph far from the sea
with just a geranium and a balcony
The night shines in your eyes
of a whole life spent watching
the stars far from the sea
and my time, yours
and that of our grandparents’ grandparents
lived through the years just thinking
A day at the beach
just for us to die
in the shadows of a dream
or maybe a photograph far from the sea
with just a geranium and a balcony
