El Aprendiz
El Cuarteto de Nos
The Apprentice
I learned to listen, shouting
I learned to doubt, trusting
I learned to suffer, wanting
I learned to arrive, waiting
I keep the marks of each lesson well
Because what hurts teaches
Ignorance is the cradle of fear
But I'm not afraid to ask: Why?
I only find out how deep a river is
When I put my foot in
I learned to return while I was going
I learned to be who I am becoming
And from shouting, suffering, bleeding, assuming
Losing, failing, from all that I learn
I learned to evade, confronting
I learned to choose, discarding
I learned to fight, resisting
I learned to succeed, failing
My head is not a vessel to fill
It's a light to be lit
I've tried to be a good student
But I never boast about what I know
Like Neptune's trident
I have power in my knowledge
I learned to return while I was going
I learned to be who I am becoming
And from shouting, suffering, bleeding, assuming
Losing, failing, from all that I learn
And even though questioning makes me slip into prudence
I know that doubt is one of the names of intelligence
My student-like demeanor is essentially to be happy
Being the eternal applicant, the eternal apprentice
I learned to return while I was going
I learned to be who I am becoming
And from shouting, suffering, bleeding, assuming
Losing, failing
I learned to return while I was going
I learned to be who I am becoming
And from shouting, suffering, bleeding, assuming
Losing, failing, from all that I learn
From all that I learn, from all that I learn
From all that I learn, from all that I learn
