A História Do Chico
Daniel & Samuel
The Story of Chico
My friend Chico told me crying
That he left the Northeast, but the longing is killing him
He said goodbye to his village
He came to São Paulo to try his luck in the capital
Chico told me he even cried when he arrived here
Seeing the drizzle fall and the cold tighten
Chico went hungry, slept on the street, and fought with death
When a man wants to be lucky, he has to risk everything
The sabiá sings, the tico-tico sings
I tell Chico that only Jesus is the solution
Because Chico is strong, he will pass the test
And he has faith in God that he will return rich to his Northeast
Chico told me that here in São Paulo
His head hurts because he's not used to so much hustle
Chico gets upset, cries, and wants to drink
But I tell him that in Jesus he will overcome
Every day Chico has a hard job if he wants
He's up at five to catch the bus
He gets on the crowded and cramped subway cars
When he's late, he gets scolded by the boss
The sabiá sings, the tico-tico sings
I tell Chico that only Jesus is the solution
Because Chico is strong, he will pass the test
And he has faith in God that he will return rich to his Northeast
Chico is living in a small room
And he has to move the bed when it's raining
But he accepts it and thinks about his luck
He thinks about his people who are in the drought on the brink of death
Chico now only listens to melodies that come from heaven
He likes to listen to Daniel and Samuel, he doesn't dance forró
He doesn't go to bars to drink beer
He now goes to church to worship Jesus
The sabiá sings, the tico-tico sings
I tell Chico that only Jesus is the solution
Because Chico is strong, he will pass the test
And he has faith in God that he will return rich to his Northeast
