A Una Paloma
Daniel Viglietti
To a Pigeon
Little white pigeon,
Vidalitá,
With a pink eye,
I used to sing to you before,
Vidalitá,
Like a lover.
Lovely pigeon,
Vidalitá,
Sad pigeon,
You have little left,
Vidalitá,
Of what you used to be.
Skinny pigeon,
Vidalitá,
With a hungry beak,
The wind took away
Vidalitá,
All your little feathers.
It's a bad wind,
Vidalitá,
It's a cold wind,
It left you without feathers,
Vidalitá,
And an empty crop.
Silly pigeon,
Vidalitá,
With a foolish beak,
Take care of your nest,
Vidalitá,
The wolf is loose.
Poor pigeon,
Vidalitá,
With lost flight,
If you don't stand up to it,
Vidalitá,
It will destroy your nest.
Lovely pigeon,
Vidalitá,
Ugly pigeon,
Get ready your beak,
Vidalitá,
For the fight.
Sick pigeon,
Vidalitá,
With a broken wing,
If you don't gather strength,
Vidalitá,
You'll end up with nothing.
Black pigeon,
Vidalitá,
With a red beak,
Grow, little pigeon,
Vidalitá,
Gouge out its eyes.
Grow your wings,
Vidalitá,
Grow your heart,
Grow, little pigeon,
Vidalitá,
And become a hawk.
