O Jantar Em Betânia

Jesus was in Bethany
Dining at a certain Simon's house
A woman came in
With a jar of perfume in her hand
That precious fragrance
She poured it on the Master
And Judas, in his greed
Murmured about it in his heart

A perfume that was poured out
Could have been sold for a hefty price
The money could go to the poor
It would be a gesture of greater praise
Jesus, who knows everything
Said gently like this
You will always have the poor with you
But you won’t have me for long

This kind woman
Anointed my body to prepare me
For my burial
That will happen in just a few days
She has done a good deed for me
That’s why her name will be remembered in history
Wherever the gospel is preached
This will be told in her memory
