Like the children of Israel in Babylon
In captivity and so far from home
They hung their harps on the willow
And the tyrants asked them to sing

The lament that comes from our harps
Speaks of how much we desire to return
When will we cross the Red Sea
To dwell in the promised land

Our song is notes of longing
Strangers in this earthly valley
We sing the exile song
And yearn for the heavenly homeland

When the day of departure comes
What joy it will be for us then
We will leave this land forever
We will sing a new song in Zion
