Mar Sin Palabras
Fernando Delgadillo
Speechless Sea
I've always been
one to move fast
but today as I sit in front of the sea
I remembered the waltz that
Juventino composed about the waves
that come and go
I've been entertained listening to their sound
talking to some seagulls as they
draw themselves for my song, and easing
those nights of incomprehension.
If I could understand
what your waves say
who could speak your sea language
what do you say in your advance and return
that shaped the vastness.
Next to you my life is so short
that I marvel at your longevity, at your age
and so calm that you still play.
Speechless sea
be in my song
with your time with your pause
your rhythm, your murmur
if that's how you learned to chat
what do you tell this world that never
stops to listen to you.
One wave sounds different
from the other wave that follows it
and from the one after
each wave is an unrepeatable miracle
that takes and gives what it conquered
Sometimes I feel that in your movement
you say everything I try to remember
and that in your example you teach...my life
wave of the sea.
