From the Book of Days

Dreams are the foam of the sea
And you must put on the cloak as the wind comes
Talent works, genius creates
Never return to the place of your old joys

Concord feeds, discord consumes us
No man is better than his conversation
A soft answer is the cure for anger
Never answer a question that hasn't been asked

If the mood inclines, it's the old ones who slip
Count your sorrows to yourself, your joys to the world
Put things in their place and they will give you yours
Happiness depends a lot on movement
Study the power of silence

Crown of goodwill is humility
The wound caused by the tongue is incurable
The best deal is always to end content
And a truth that hurts is better than a lie that pleases

A word spoken at the right time
Is like a golden apple on a silver tray
A hug upon meeting is better than upon parting
And the vice in which one relapses is never so small
Think of the exit before entering
And much of being happy consists in giving

If unfortunately you have to beg
Only knock on the doors of the great houses
When the weapons are ready, good sense is lacking
The best companion in adversity is a book

The end is the beginning in my song
Rumors are half-truths
The tongue of the wise is in their heart
And the heart of the fool is in their tongue

I don't know if this always happens as I sing
I learn it in my Book of Days
In this one I collapse and rise
To know it, life will still remain
