Antigo Aposento

I went back to my land
To kill my longing
Full of happiness
I found my friends
The night was clear with its silver moonlight
I went to serenade instead of singing, I cried
I soon realized the longing, a memory
Of my childhood days playing by the waterfall
Saracura in the marsh, great kiskadee in the orchard
I want to hear the singing of the orange tree thrush

On that big balcony, I leaned out the window
And in the net of the past, I swung many times
Comparing my childhood with all that I've been through
Only my childhood that I will never forget

I wish I could go back at least to 15 years old
I suffered so many disappointments that I don't even like to remember
I lost my youth after so much suffering
I returned to my old chamber to rest

I was sad and pensive in the corner all alone
To listen to the birds singing passionately
It seems like they were saying why did you leave
Today it's you who cries remembering your past

A hawk cried sadly in the center of the savannah
Goldfinch on the lawn, bellbirds in the woods
I also sang sadly with a viola in my arms
There's nothing to console this pain that afflicts me
