Le chasseur
Michel Delpech
The Hunter
It was five in the morning
We were moving through the marshes
Covered in mist
I had my gun in my hands
A little bird took off in the distance
Gaining altitude
The eager dogs walked ahead
Through the reeds
Across the pond
Suddenly I saw
Wild geese flying by
They were heading
Southward
To the Mediterranean
A flight of partridges
Over the fields
Rose into the clouds
The forest sang
The sun shone
At the edge of the swamps
With my gun in my hands
Deep down I felt
A bit guilty
So I went off alone
I took my spaniel
For a walk
I looked up
At the blue sky
And I felt good
Across the pond
Suddenly I saw
Wild geese flying by
They were heading
Southward
To the Mediterranean
A flight of partridges
Over the fields
Rose into the clouds
The forest sang
The sun shone
At the edge of the swamps
And all those birds
That were so happy
Up there in the clouds
I would have loved to join them
At the end of their journey
Yeah, all those birds
That were so happy
Up there in the clouds
I would have loved to join them
At the end of their journey
