Penas de Un Soldado
Diomedes Díaz
Soldier's Sorrows
In a faraway land lived a very faithful soldier
They had him in a barracks where he lived very sadly
Very little came out of there because I had no power
And they wouldn't let him see a girlfriend he had
The days went by, the boy lived very sad
He couldn't live drunk because they didn't give him rum
I had to go through the pain without anyone to relieve it
And they didn't let him drink liquor either
I sang love verses and at the same time I cried
I sang love verses and at the same time I cried
A nice rainy day, they got up early
The lieutenants handed him a piece of paper
When he looked at it he could see that his girlfriend was writing to him
Telling him that he could meet him that day
He spoke with the colonel to give him permission
But the superior told him that he could no longer leave
And that he had to leave because they had transferred him
The soldier was so sad that he didn't even insist
Her body shook as her eyes cried
Her body shook as her eyes cried
With hope lost, the boy then left
He decided to wait for the night to fly out of the barracks
It was very hard for him to leave for other lands
Leaving his partner that he never saw again
The night began to fall, very silent and dark
He made the mistake of leaving too early
And a forced sentry shot him three times
That soldier fell and was almost dead, he said
He who was born from an affection for a love died
He who was born from an affection for a love died
