Haunted House
When I was a cowboy, time that doesn't come back
I had an experience that I'll never forget
I took a herd of cattle to the backlands of Goiás
With seven more companions, I was the foreman
Upon arriving in Catalão beyond Minas Gerais
I delivered the cattle, left them penned in the corrals
I slept very poorly at night missing my parents
At the break of dawn
I saddled my horse and rode back alone!
I traveled for nine hours in the advance of the hill
As the afternoon approached, a light rain came
Not a soul was in sight, only birds of prey
The rain increased with the misty dunes
My tired horse struggled uphill
I asked Our Lady for divine protection
At that moment, I saw down the hill
An abandoned house
I decided to stay the night in this desolate land of mines
I hung up my gear and released my chestnut horse
I lit the old stove with sticks from the wall
I dried my clothes, made my bed on the floor
The little house shook with the thunder
A very strange feeling of unease came over me
I had a premonition of some haunting
With my body shivering, I said my prayer
I lay down all curled up
I began to hear moans from below the basement
Those ugly moans were getting closer to me
I thought someone was passing by
With the falling rain, the house began to drip
The sad voice was of a man in agony
The house is truly haunted, I thought
I crossed myself many times and continued praying
A stronger lightning bolt entered the room illuminating
I looked to the adjacent room
I saw a man hanging on the wall swinging
I drew my special sights .38 revolver
And shouted 'fire from here, defend yourself Satan'
Whether I missed or hit, it doesn't matter
I can say that the moaning was no longer heard
The day was approaching, the day was showing signs
I continued my journey to the pine forests
I stopped being a cowboy, changed my ideals
I dismissed the cowhands
Never again did I take a herd of cattle to those parts of Goiás
