Near Rio Verde, in the countryside of Goiás
I saw a sad story that I will never forget
A couple of lovers who loved each other too much
Their marriage was against their parents
The girl was a millionaire, daughter of a farmer
The boy was very poor, but a very good guitar player
They didn't want the marriage because he didn't have money
But there was a true love between them
She entered her room in endless torment
She left a written letter, in the letter it said
Dad and mom, since I was a child I have loved this boy madly
And today, because he is poor, they didn't allow our marriage
But we made a vow to follow one path
Up on the hill, lying on the ground, we will die close together
Don't cry, dad, and don't despair
Keep your money, raise only a cross for me
I ask forgiveness from the Lord because for our love
We will give our souls to Jesus!
Reading that little letter, everyone was scared
And up on the hill, the two were found
There was no remedy, their bodies were cold
There they drank poison and died embraced
Who passes by there, praying, takes off their hat
Recognizing the story and wandering aimlessly
There you see a little chapel all adorned with a veil
They didn't marry on Earth but they united in Heaven
