In Your Poem
In your poem
There's a blank verse, unmeasured
A body that breathes, an open sky
A window leaning out to life
In your poem
There's a silent pain deep down
The step of courage in a dark house
And an open balcony to the world
There's the night
The laughter and the voice renewed in daylight
The party of the lady of anguish and the fatigue
Of a body that falls asleep on a cold bed
There's a river
The fate of those born weak or strong
The risk, the anger, and the struggle
Of those who fall or resist
Who wins or falls asleep before death
In your poem
There's the scream and the echo of gunfire
The pain I know by heart but don’t recite
And the restless dreams of those who fail
In your poem
There's a folk song from Alentejo
The street and the call of a fishmonger
And a boat blown by the wind
There's a river
The song in voices together, at times right
A song with one single lyric and one single fate to embark
At the dock of the new ship of discoveries
There's a river
The fate of those born weak or strong
The risk, the anger, and the struggle
Of those who fall or resist
Who wins or falls asleep
Before death
In your poem
There's the hope lit behind the world
There's everything else that still escapes me
It's a blank verse waiting
For the future
