La fête continue
Édith Piaf
The Party Goes On
The party's in full swing, music and rides,
Candy, rifles, fortune tellers, naked ladies.
From morning till night, it’s a long parade:
Songs, swings, the party goes on…
Downstairs, there are kids screaming.
Dad's sick, mom's gone.
He’s slapping the kids around,
But the noise of the party drowns out all their cries.
Above, two young lovers. You should see how they love,
Yeah, but their folks don’t want to hear it.
They’ve decided they’ll love each other anyway
And that they’ll die for it… and that’s for tonight…
The party's in full swing, music and rides,
Candy, rifles, fortune tellers, naked ladies.
From morning till night, it’s a long parade:
Songs, swings, the party goes on…
Higher up, there’s a widow. Nothing interests her anymore.
She had just one son, he was her whole life.
He’s gone, taking the money with him.
Since then, she’s been crying day and night.
The little boy who just got out of school
Got a zero, he’s gonna be punished
And next Sunday, that’s what’s got him down,
Instead of the party, he’ll stay home.
The party's in full swing, music and rides,
Candy, rifles, fortune tellers, naked ladies.
From morning till night, it’s a long parade:
Songs, swings, the party goes on…
Across the street, the sweet old folks
Haven’t seen their daughter in twenty-five years.
They’ve got one obsession: to make the tables spin.
Spirit, are you there?... And they’re happy…
And like everyone else, I watch these dramas
But I close my eyes, I think of my happiness.
We’ve given ourselves body and soul.
We’re too happy to have a heart…
The party's in full swing, music and rides,
Kisses, rifles, "I love you", naked ladies.
From morning till night, it’s a long parade:
Love, swings, the party goes on…
