Une enfant
Édith Piaf
A Child
A child, a child of sixteen
A child of springtime
Lying on the road…
She lived in one of those neighborhoods
Where everyone’s rich as hell
She left her parents behind
To follow a boy, a drifter
Who knew just how to say "I love you"
It was becoming overwhelming
And their two sunny hearts
Left without a forwarding address
Taking only their youth
And the sweetness of their sin
A child, a child of sixteen
A child of springtime
Lying on the road…
Their hearts had no seasons
And didn’t want to be caged
They lived day by day
Never staying in one place
Their hearts needed space
To hold such love
Her present and her future
Was this magnificent love
That rocked her like a lullaby
And lost its gaze in the blue
A child, a child of sixteen
A child of springtime
Lying on the road…
But her love was too big
Too big for a child’s soul
She lived only by her heart
And her heart created a world
But God doesn’t accept worlds
That He didn’t create
Love being their only feast
He left her for some crumbs
Then her life retreated
And then the child knew hunger
A child, a child of sixteen
A child of springtime
Lying on the road
Dead!...
Ahaaa…
