C'est La Moindre Des Choses
Édith Piaf
It's the Least I Could Do
It was a spring day
We didn't have the time
To think about the work week
To avoid being late
We jumped in the car
That dropped us off in Suresnes
Ah! Everything seemed so nice
On that beautiful afternoon
And that's when I met
The guy I always dreamed of
He said to me, "I love you"
I said, "Me too"
It was the least I could do
He asked, "Are we on a first-name basis?"
I said, "Of course"
It was the least I could do
So, without really understanding
I followed him
His eyes were so tender
That my heart melted
He said, "Kiss me"
I said, "Here, go ahead"
It was the least I could do
We both acted
Like we were cool
Not caring at all
But deep down, we were
Two shy ones
He, in front of his friends
Was playing it cool
I listened to him, I found him stunning
As long as we were dancing
He kept up his image
But when we found ourselves on the platform
He was different, his voice trembled
He said, "Come here, sweetheart"
I said, "I'm ready"
It was the least I could do
He said, "All night long"
So, I said yes
It was the least I could do
We walked in the shadows
All along the way
And since it was dark
He held my hand
He said, "This is serious"
I said nothing, it was better
It was the least I could do
When morning came
He looked emotional
About something he didn't want to say
He went back to acting tough
Yeah, but it sounded off
I could see he was forcing a smile
I had a heavy heart
Yeah, of course, it was too good
It was time to say goodbye
And I had tears in my eyes
He said, "Be gentle
Because you see, our romance
It was the least I could do
We meet, we part
And then we forget quickly
It's really the least I could do"
But as I opened the door
Into the blue morning
He said, "You're the strongest
Stay, if you want"
And since that beautiful day
We've been one forever
It was the least I could do!
