La Señora Del Chalet
Edmundo Rivero
The Lady of the Chalet
Get out of your criminal neighborhood,
Leave the shady convent,
What I propose to you
You won't find it there.
You'll see what a fancy train
With your new outfit,
So that the envious ones
Who have to work will be jealous.
I'm going to dress you up
In a French maison,
In white, in strawberry
In cloth or crepe,
With four or five bracelets,
A pendant with a diamond,
And a ring with a diamond
Shinier than a lantern.
You'll stop being the poor
Shady convent girl,
And once filled with fabric
You'll change your name too:
You'll put on one of those
Properly French names,
And you'll see that to your past
You bid farewell without a group.
You'll have a debut chauffeur
Properly uniformed,
And a well-mannered little cousin
To help you make an entrance.
Here, the fools from the neighborhood,
Seeing your appearance and your goods,
Will all say, "Here comes
The lady of the chalet."
You'll have a piano instead of a radio
And luxurious furniture,
You'll appear in the newspapers
In the social gallery,
Although I, to support you,
Will always be in trouble,
And eternally exposed
In the police chronicle.
