Tardecitas Estuleras
Edmundo Rivero
Evening Studs
Ricardo, prepare the mate
And a strong little drink,
To watch my luck
I'm going to the stud.
And if you've already given them their ration
Get the colts ready,
The chestnut and the roan
Will shine like light.
Adjust their bandages
Don't skimp on their bedding,
Give them a good massage,
Hindquarters, shoulder, and kidney
And if they're being gentle
Be careful with the over-cane,
The strings where they hang,
Frog, fetlock, and hock.
Watch over the stable boys for me
And in the morning preparations,
Give them a whip to mount them
And adjust your watch.
Lightened by your hand,
In the first races
Right out of the gate
They'll mark forty-two.
Then find them a short race
If not a mile and a quarter, a mile,
So when the curtain falls
When the crowd cheers.
In a finale of emotions,
Of horses and jackets,
There will be my colors
At the top of the scoreboard.
My glory is being a horseman
To have a thoroughbred as a shield
It will be because from a very young age
I turned to God's good side
And back in the thirties
At the barbecues of Berasa
I sang my first praises
By the doors of a box.
Evening studs
From San Isidro and Palermo
If I don't live them, I get sick
That's why I shout in health.
Ricardo, prepare the mate
And a strong little drink
To watch my luck
I'm going to the stud.
