El Abrazo del Oso
El Abrazo de Oso
The Bear Hug
Alberto was a young man,
Whose son had recently been born
And it was the first time he felt the
Experience of being a dad,
One fine day he felt like getting
In touch with nature;
Because since his baby was born
Everything seemed beautiful to him and
Even the rustle of a leaf
Falling sounded like lovely musical notes,
So he decided to go to a forest,
He wanted to hear the birds singing
And enjoy all the beauty,
He walked peacefully breathing the humidity
That is in these places, when suddenly,
He saw perched on a branch an eagle
That surprised him by the beauty of its plumage.
The eagle, had also
The joy of receiving its chicks,
And had as a goal to reach
The nearest river,
Catch a fish and take it to
Its nest as food,
Because it meant a very big
Responsibility to raise and train its eaglets
To face the challenges that life offers.
The eagle, noticing Alberto's presence
Stared at him and asked:
Where are you heading good man?,
I see joy in your eyes.
My son has been born and
I have come to the forest to enjoy but,
The truth is that I feel a little
Confused. hey, asked the eagle
And what do you plan to do with your son?
Well now and from now on I will always
Protect him, feed him
And never allow him to feel cold,
I will make sure he has
Everything he needs, and day
By day I will be the one to shield him
From the harsh weather,
I will defend him from the enemies
He may have and I will never let
Him go through difficult situations, he is
My son, I love him and I will not allow him to
Go through problems or needs
Like the ones I went through, I will never
Let that happen, because for that
I am here, so that he never
Struggles for anything and, to finish
I add, I as his father will be
Strong as a bear and with the
Power of my arms I will surround him,
I will hug him and never let
Anything or anyone disturb him.
The eagle was amazed,
Astonished, she listened and could not
Believe what she had heard,
Then, breathing deeply
And shaking her huge plumage,
She stared at him and said:
Listen to me good man,
When I received the mandate of nature
To nurture my children,
I also received the mandate
To build my nest,
A comfortable, safe nest,
Well guarded from the
Predators, but also
I have put branches with many
Thorns and do you know why?,
Because even though these
Thorns are covered by
Feathers, someday when my
Chicks have feathered
And are strong enough to fly, I will
Remove all that comfort and
They will no longer be able to dwell
On the thorns, that will
Force them to build their own nest,
The whole valley will be for them,
As long as they make
Their own effort to conquer it
With all; their mountains,
Their rivers full of fish and
Meadows full of rabbits, if I were to
Embrace them like a bear I would repress their
Aspirations and desires to be
Themselves, I would irreparably destroy
Their individuality and make them
Indolent individuals, without the will to
Fight, nor joy to live, sooner
Or later I would cry for my mistake, because
Seeing my eaglets turned into
Ridiculous representatives of their
Species, would fill me with remorse
And great shame, because I would have to
Reap the impertinence of my actions,
Seeing my offspring unable
To have their own triumphs,
Failures and mistakes, because
I wanted to solve all their problems.
My friend, said the eagle,
I could swear to you that after
God I will love my children
Above all things, but
I will also promise that
I will never be an accomplice in the
Superficiality of their immaturity,
I will understand their youth,
But I will not participate in their
Excesses I will strive
To know their qualities
But also their flaws,
And I will never allow them to abuse me,
In the name of this love I profess to them,
The eagle fell silent, and Alberto did not know
What to say, as he was still confused
And as he entered into a deep
Reflection, with great majesty,
She took flight and disappeared into the horizon.
Alberto began to walk,
While staring at the dry foliage
Scattered on the ground,
He only thought about how wrong
He was and the terrible mistake that
He was going to make, by giving his son
A hug like that of a bear.
Reassured, he kept walking,
Only thinking about getting home,
With love, hug his little baby,
Thinking that hugging him would only
Be for seconds, since the
Little one began to have
The need for his own freedom,
To move legs and arms
Without any protective bear
Preventing him. from that day on,
Alberto began to prepare
To be the best of fathers.
